Session Details

What should I expect during the photo session?
Expect lots of fun, this is not your normal sit-down, “look at the camera and say cheese on the count of three” picture appointment. It will be nice and relaxed, there will be lots of laughing and talking, and many candid moments. We will be on location, and we will discuss where and what bests fits you. I shoot natural lighting outdoors, unless it is a newborn/infant. The best time is a couple of hours before sunset, but I also reserve Mondays from 9am-1pm and one weekend a month for outdoor pictures. Having two toddlers of my own, I know how important it is to make sure your children are comfortable with me. Sometimes that means telling cheesy jokes or giving them a lollipop (if that is okay with mom and dad, of course!). I will take my time and do whatever it takes to capture that funny face that your child makes, or that seriously sweet look in their eyes. Don’t worry parents, I will get plenty of smiles, too! The fee includes photographer’s time and talent, a fun photo session, an online gallery, and your choice to buy the DVD of your images or buy prints straight from your gallery . You will receive printing and sharing rights to all high resolution images should you choose to buy the DVD. What do we wear? Most importantly, be comfortable. If you feel uncomfortable, chances are the pictures will show it. Find something that fits your own personal style and just be yourself. That being said, here are some pointers:

What is your theme?
Is it vintage, traditional, playful, dressy? You want the wardrobe to reflect this theme, so make sure if it is the whole family being pictured, they all get the memo. There is an unwritten rule of “3+1”, which means three coordinating colors plus one color pop. Try to avoid shirts with logos such as “Willy’s Car Washing”. Tops with one letter or number from places such as Etsy are very cute, especially if it is a birthday portrait. If you want to go with a traditional black or white, spice it up a bit by placing pops of color somewhere. It is that little bit of difference that adds dimension to your photos. If everyone is wearing the same colors, I always suggest a color-complimenting scarf or hat. Be even more daring and make that a patterned scarf or hat! I also have handmade headbands, tutu’s, and feather skirts for little girls I will bring along if interested.

What about my engagement shoot?
What I love best are when one is in solids and the other in a fun pattern. Be yourself but add a little “something” to make them extra special. Fun pair of shoes, fun hair accessory, etc. Most times the bride to be outshines the groom to be, but make sure not to take away from him completely. Meaning, just as important it is for you to look YOUR best it is JUST as important for “Bob” to look his best. Get your hair done. A good time to try out your hairstylist for your big day. Also, getting make up done is key!!!

What about my maternity shoot?
Tanks with Jeans. Long dresses that show that sweet baby bump. Dresses with fun shoes. Daddy’s-to-be in Jeans and Tee. Simple and sweet. What should we wear for babies newborn photos? Naked babies are the best. I will bring hats, wraps, diaper covers, flowers, etc. If you have something in mind that your sweet wee will be adorable in, absolutely have it ready for me. Etsy has really cute things for newborns if you are interested in buying. Keep in mind it could take a few weeks to get here. Mom and Dad should be dressed comfortable. White solid tee is great with black pants {think knit for mom}. Please no logos of any kind on shirts because if babies are in the arms of mom or dad they will be snuggled up close.

What about “Judd’s Ollie”?
My sweet boy has a stuffed elephant named Ollie that goes with him everywhere. I think it is so important to bring things like this to your shoot. However, it’s always best to leave “Ollie” at the bottom of moms diaper bag until the very end otherwise “Ollie” will be in all of the images. Not sure you want that? Please bring something that will soothe the sweet little ones just in case- think suckers, snacks, etc. Most time we do not need these items, but there is always a chance. Also, if they eat before the shoot, make sure they have wiped off their food. Clean faces are the best!
Any other items of importance like a memorabilia, a grandmother’s quilt, etc just bring them. Please let me know if you want something in the picture so that I may incorporate it.

How many clothing changes should I bring to a shoot?
If you are booked for a mini session, then no outfit changes. If you have booked a full session then two outfit changes would be just fine! Sometimes even 3 outfit changes for the kiddos works out too. ** If you are still stumped, I would love to help you.  Just email me and I will send you some links with great ideas for clothing.
